The first half of this course will look at 3 key intelligences that determine success when developing any meditative practice. By understanding and cultivating these 3 pillars of intelligence you will have both the foundation and the perspective to skillfully weave meditation into your daily life.
Week One | Conative Intelligence
This week is all about establishing an authentic motivation, not only for your meditation practice, but also taking a deeper look at what is driving the current of our lives, What does it mean to be happy? And how best do we live a full and meaningful life?
Week Two | Attention
In week two we will begin to hone our attention skills through the Buddhist practice of Shamata. Shamata is a meditation practice that seeks to cultivate our capacity to maintain an ongoing flow of mindful attention. Attention is the foundation to all meditative practice, in this week we will cover the basic techniques and pitfalls of developing this skill.
Week Three | Cognitive Intelligence (Vipasana)
Vipasana or insight meditation addresses the way in which we view ourselves, and the world around us. In this module we will explore meditative techniques designed to help us peel back the veil that often clouds our perception in order to enquire deeply into the very nature of who we are.
The second half of this course will draw once again from the Buddhist tradition. The Four Immeasurables is a rich suite of practices that open the heart and counter distortions in our relationship to our self, and deepen our relationship to others.
Week Four | Loving kindness
Week Five | Compassion
Week Six | Empathetic Joy & Equanimity
